My Church, My Home.
Alison Jenkins
Ephphatha means so much to me because it is apart of who I am. I have a been a member of Ephphatha since the age of 3 and now, as an adult I have had the opportunity to join any Church in Chicago to worship Christ, but Ephphatha is my Church. It is my home.
I am a CODA (child of deaf adults) and my mother has always taught me to pray, give thanks, and count my blessings. She reminds me to "go with God", meaning to allow God to lead me in the direction that is pleasing to HIM. Part of that direction I believe is to support my Church in any way that I am able. My wish is to inform our communities about a hidden gem on the South Side of Chicago for the deaf and hard of hearing to worship and fellowship.
Ephphatha is the only predominately Black Deaf Church in Chicago, IL located on the South Side. It's members consists of deaf and hard of hearing individuals, hearing people, and other CODAs like myself. Our Pastor, Rev. Prentice Marsh has worked in deaf ministy for over 25 years and is dedicated to teaching the Word of the Lord to the deaf. His strength and faith in GOD has kept our Church moving forward but nonetheless, our Church is fragile. Ephphatha is on the path to closing its doors.
Ephphatha is not defeated yet. I ask, and Ephphatha asks you for your support. Our Church has so much history that is untold and has so much to offer in Christ to the the deaf community. Ephphatha is taking action now to rebuild our ministies so that we may preserve over 60 years of history of the deaf having a place of their own to worship and give thanks to Christ JESUS.
Do we have your support?
Please come and join us on Sunday mornings a 10 am to witness the Good News and to feel the impact. Take the time to make a charitable donation so that Ephphatha may continue to survive...
Pray for our strength in this time of need and spread the word that Ephphatha continues to live!
Blessing,
-Alison Jenkins
